Destroyers were very slight. The injuries to the "Vigilante" were such that she has had to go into Dock for repairs. Two Torpedo Boat Destroyers, the "Fronde" (350 tons) and "Francisque" (303 tons), were driven ashore on the West side of the Kowloon Peninsula, the latter by the "Monteagle", which shut her into a small bay. She was subsequently released and got off without serious damage. The "Fronde", which lost 5 men altogether and had 4 others injured, is still fixed up at the Naval Torpedo Depot, and though salvage operations have been started, it is feared that they will not prove successful and that the vessel will become a total loss. I telegraphed on the 18th my sympathies and condolence to Vice-Admiral Richard commanding "L'Escadre de l'Extreme Orient" and communicated them also to Rear-Admiral Boisse, who arrived on the "D'Entrecasteux" a few days later, and from both I received appreciative replies.
17. The total number of boats reported damaged to Chinese Craft to the Tung Wa Hospital during the month of September as having been lost in the storm of the 18th was 470, valued at $1,085,000. The number reported to the Police up to the 3rd instant was 1,576. No doubt in many instances
